Soundtrack se skládá téměř výhradně z coververzí - jedinou původní písní na albu je "Come What May", kterou složili David Baerwald a Kevin Gilbert. Úvodní píseň "Nature Boy" nazpíval David Bowie, ačkoli ve filmu ji hraje herec John Leguizamo jako Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Původně ji napsal americký zpěvák a skladatel eden ahbez, píseň je znovu uvedena v podání Bowieho a Massive Attack a s dialogem Nicole Kidman jako závěrečná píseň na soundtracku.

"Lady Marmalade", kterou napsali Bob Crewe a Kenny Nolan, proslavila v 70. letech dívčí skupina Labelle. Píseň obsahuje sexuálně sugestivní text "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir?", což znamená "Chtěla by ses se mnou dnes v noci vyspat?". Verze písně od Labelle byla v roce 2003 uvedena do síně slávy Grammy. Na soundtracku tuto verzi nazpívaly Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Maya a Pink a další vokály přidala Missy Elliott. Píseň získala cenu Grammy za nejlepší popovou spolupráci s vokály.
